LIBRARY BUILDS

A whole new world awaits inside.

Village Libraries builds an educational infrastructure in rural villages where schools are poor, and internet does not exist.

Working in remote areas, we build village libraries complete with solar panels, hard copy books, and computers.

Then we add internet access. And open the world.

The unique combination of a quality learning environment and internet access is a game changer. We help villagers and their children go from no opportunity to endless possibility.

And we are just getting started. Alongside our signature mentoring program for younger students, we provide educational programing targeted to the community’s needs.

Our newest project (in Kampala, Uganda) serving 1600 students and offering tech training through one of our corporate partners, Caylent, will enable students to leave high school with job-ready skills, an opportunity they have never had before.

In addition to student-centered services, our library resources and access to online training give rural educators the tools to develop better programs, vastly improving the quality of local education.

Yewoh, our local librarian in Lilongwe, Malawi recently began a digital literacy course and runs a local book club. As is true at all our library locations, Yewoh has a long waiting list of students who want to join her programs.

A village library is a community effort, and everyone has a stake in the effort involved. If a village applies for a library, it must provide 20% of the cost through labor and/or materials and engage in a rigorous vetting process that prepares community members to fully participate at all stages.

Help villagers help themselves and their children.

Quality Infrastructure is key!

A proper space for development is critical. It provides a safe, dry place for computers, book, and other essential learning materials. It also provides a safe space that encourages learning, connection, and collaboration.
