After visiting/serving in Mexico, Peru, and Nepal, I realized that there are so many beautiful cultures and wonderful people around the world. I found a love for learning other languages and skills. But I also found an enormous appreciation for the many gifts that I’ve been given, and an overwhelming desire to share it with others. I’ve realized the importance of learning and its effect on future generations. I love serving with humanitarian groups both locally and internationally.
Serving around the world has given me a supreme joy for and perspective of life. It helps me to remind myself of what truly matters in life: family, education, religion, and making the world a better place. My favorite part of my experience of serving with Village Book Builders is how it helps families to begin a practice of reading and learning together. It supports family unity and encourages people to be their best selves. I hope to bring that gift to every corner of the world throughout my life!”- Loren Derr
